IMPORTANT - Digswell Cancelled

With great regret, the committee has come to the conclusion that, given the current situation, we have no choice but to cancel our Spring Convention due to take place on 5th April at Digswell.

The next convention will therefore be on 4th October.

USGB Ukulele Band of the Year Contest 2019

We finally got there! The winners of the contest are as follows:-

1st The Kukes, from Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex
2nd Ullalele, from Otley, West Yorkshire
3rd Doncaster Ukulele Group, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire

Congratulations to all the bands who took part. The standard of entries was superb and you all deserve awards. It's just a shame that not everyone can win.
Many thanks to all who took part, and especially to our judges, Andy Eastwood, Mary Agnes Krell and Matt Warnes, for giving up their time for a tough task.

USGB Band of the Year Shortlist

The judges have had a tough time coming up with their choice of the top 6 bands as all the entries were excellent. As there was a tie for 6th place, there are 7 groups in the shortlist to go forward to the finals of the contest. They are:

Doncaster Ukulele Group from Doncaster, South Yorkshire
The Kukes from Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex
Skuffle from East Grinstead, West Sussex
Somerleyton Ukulele Strummers from Somerleyton, Suffolk
The Ukes of Wellington from Wellington, Somerset
Ullalele from Otley, West Yorkshire
Ware Ukulele Group from Ware, Hertfordshire

The results of the final round of judging will be announced here at the end of the first week of November.

The new issue of the magazine has been completed and will be posted to all current members of the Society in September.

USGB Ukulele Band of the Year Contest

Registration for participation in the Contest closed at midnight last night (31st July) so I can now confirm that there will be 33 bands taking part from all over the country.

The bands have until the end of September to submit links to their entry videos ready for judging in October and 5 bands have already submitted their videos.

Notice: Appointment of New USGB President

Following the passing of our President, Malcolm Atkins, earlier in the year we have had to select a new President. The committee has unanimously agreed the following appointments:-

Malcolm Marsh moves from his current position as Vice-President to become the new President of the Ukulele Society of Great Britain.

Andy Eastwood moves from his position as Publicity Officer to become the new Vice-President of the Society.

Our congratulations to Malcolm and to Andy.

Also, James Spencer takes on the position of Secretary. He retains his responsibilities as editor of The Syncopator and web master.

We have just received the entry video from Fylde Ukulele Network for the contest. That makes three entries so far - the others are videos from the Sandy Ukulele Group and the Central Ukulele Players. You can watch all the videos on the contestants page of the USGB web site.
Don't forget that if you want to enter your group for the contest, you only have another couple of weeks to register.

Reminder: If you plan on entering your group for the contest, you have just four weeks left to register. Entries must be registered by the last day of July and then you have until the end of September to send in your video.

USGB Ukulele Band of the Year Contest

We have had a phenomenal response to the announcement of the USGB Ukulele Band of the Year Contest. In the first 24 hours 397 people visited the USGB website to get further details and we have already received applications from 10 UK local groups despite having until July to register their decision to compete.
Competing groups have until September to submit their entry videos and judging will take place in October so plenty of time to rehearse and fine tune your entry.

The next meeting will be at Digswell on Sunday 7th October, 2018. Starting off at 10:30 am with a workshop, the meeting will continue with the afternoon concert and ending with the Thrash around 7:00 pm.
